Message Did you do any wetsanding with 2000grit?

There are several ways to achieve the same desired result.

ie. Using a more aggressive pad with a less aggressive compound vs. using a softer pad with a more aggressive compound.

I PERSONALLY.. find it easier to use a more agressive pad and lighter compounds. (its more consistent in my opinion and experiences)..

I just recently did my whole car for the first time ,
ie
-2000grit wetsand, rubbing compound+agressive pad (meguiars Ultimate compound, purple pad from them,

-then used the same compound on a lighter pad (yellow)..

-then their Ultimate Polishing compound with a blue finishing pad (preforated).

-then final wax by hand.

I was truly amazed on how the car looked and the paint looked like glass.

I am sure there are better ways to do this stuff.. but I was in my learning curve it and worked great for me as a novice. Now there are shortcuts I can take with my own and achieve the same result. Some use Wool pads to really cut down and avoid using 2000grit (so time intensive).. but its so aggressive I was nervous I would burn through.. but it wouldve saved me HOURS AND HOURS. I literally had 30+hrs into it (being super careful and taping off etc) This included me washing, degreasing, clay bar (should def clay bar before doing any buffing at all, etc etc.. I could probably do it in half the time now.

I wish I had some before pics.. but it was original 23yr old paint.. taken care of well.. but it had hard water spots, scratches all over and just plain faded/old.

Discount the "scratch X".. I didn't like that stuff too much.. the others were great tho.. and great for beginners

Should really be using a sanding block.. which I ended up buying later.. a foam block for the flat areas.. I did wetsanding with warm water and small amount of dawn dish detergent, allowing the sand paper to soak in the solution for a while before starting.

I wanted to polish any paint on everything after this.. lol I was very excited about learning it!
